The best way to change Corporate Culture... →
“I’d like to talk to you about a big project,” the woman told me on the phone. “We need to change our culture.” She was a senior leader in a professional services firm, where people really are their most important asset. Only it turns out the people weren’t so happy. Theirs was a very successful firm with high revenues, great clients, and hard working...

“Even if you only want to make small changes, Alex Willcocks, creative director at Engage Interactive, recommends approaching your site refresh with an open mind. “Sometimes going back to the beginning and thinking from that standpoint can bring surprising results,” he says, “especially with the number of resources available to web designers increasing all the time.”
Google Becomes Default Location Provider For... →
“Many of us have been saying it for a long time: location based services are the future. But up until now they’ve been a distant, hazy future, because they’ve been so difficult to use. That’s going to change soon, and it looks like Google is going to be leading the way.”

What in the world is happening when a blog like this is heavily trafficked?
What happened to “Come home when the streetlights come on” and “Don’t do that, or you’ll get hurt”? I don’t see how the world can have changed so much since I was a child.

Philip Greenspun’s Weblog » How Rich Countries Die →
An extremely illuminating look at cartels as a country’s economy ages. Written by Philip Greenspun, not exactly a dummy. It’s interesting to track economic growth versus periods of stability, and map out how that may trend going forward.
Very very cool closeups of a hummingbird being hand fed.
“In June of 2006 I was replacing empty feeders with clean ones and this hummingbird landed on the feeder as I was carrying it to the pole. I stopped instantly and stood perfectly still because motion will scare hummingbirds away. From this came the clips you will see in this video. It would eat from any feeder or cut flower that I...
Free Idea
And if anyone can get this done next week, that would be great.
Someone make a slow-fade light. This would be a light in a kid’s room that has a switch and a dial. You can set the dial to fade the light out over a period of time - say 10-30 minutes.
Good for a child who doesn’t want the light out right away, is scared of the dark, or wants to read to him/herself for a little while.
Free Idea
This one my wife came up with.
Develop an iPod Touch/iPhone app that would sync up the BPM of your songs with your pulse.
Useful for workouts, but would require some extra hardware.
No interface, hooray!
I used to joke that Steve Jobs would one day make a Apple device with no interface.
With the release of the new iPod Shuffle, I joke no more. It literally has no buttons, but rather a small spot on the earphones that you squeeze, hold, double squeeze and triple squeeze in varying ways to control the music.
What’s wrong with a physical interface?
Free Idea
Free idea to anyone that can make it happen:
Make a smaller generator that can fit in/on the heel of my show. Then I can charge my mobile or iPod just from walking around.

I know this isn’t a uncommon complaint. Interesting to see it looked at so closely.

Social Media Commenting →
I was complaining earlier today about how fragmented social media is right now. There are a dozen different services, all with their own audiences and environments.
